At MACS, instrumental music allows students to serve and to become more involved in the school and wider community through performance in various ensembles. Our instrumental groups provide an outlet for self-expression and help create well rounded students. Most importantly, our music groups provide a platform for praising and thanking God. This is accomplished through raising people’s consciences to thoughts of the Divine through musical performances at school Masses, parish Masses, and concerts.
MACS students begin their instrumental music journey in third grade at Holy Ghost Elementary when all students learn to play recorder in general music. In fifth grade, students can choose to join concert band as an elective. Students’ musical experiences broaden in fifth grade general music when all students learn guitar basics and again in concert band where they learn the basics of jazz. At Notre Dame Middle School and McDonell Central Catholic High School concert band is offered to all interested students regardless of experience. Jazz Ensemble is also an elective for students seeking a greater challenge and/or musical diversity. In addition to large group ensembles, individual and small group lessons are provided as part of concert band at all grade levels.
