Holy Ghost School Counseling

Welcome to the Holy Ghost School Counseling page! Here you can find information about the school counseling program and what we can offer your child and family, as well as monthly topics, virtues and newsletters.

Our MACS School Counseling mission is to effectively provide a comprehensive K-12 program that fosters development in academic, career, and emotional/social domains. To cohesively provide students the opportunity to gain skills and develop their unique potential to become successful in all aspects of life.

Confidentiality
All services that the school counselor provides is done in a confidential manner. Students at the elementary level can expect a note to go home during small groups and during individual counseling. At the end of an individual counseling session the counselor and the student will decide together what the note will say that is sent home. Parents have the right to ask about the content of any counseling services. In some situations complete confidentiality is suggested depending on the needs of the student. If a student ever shares that they are going to hurt someone else, themselves or someone has hurt them this information is not confidential and parents will be notified immediately.

Academic
At the elementary level the school counselor will work with students on academic topics like organizing, prioritizing and being prepared for class.

Career
At the elementary level the school counselor will work with students to explore the skills and interests they have and that are starting to develop. These skills and interests will help students start to understand with types of careers might be a good fit for them in the future.

Social/Emotional
At the elementary level the school counselor will work with students to develop an understanding of school expectations and behavior, self concept, and personal needs and development.

Classroom Counseling
At the elementary level students receive classroom counseling once a week for half an hour. Lesson topics are standards based and are a variety of academic, career and social/emotional.

Small Group Counseling
At the elementary level the school counselor works with about six students or fewer per group. The topic is decided on an “as needed” basis. If there are students who need to learn more about friendship, then we do a friendship group. If there are students who need study skills, then we do a study skills group. These groups are confidential.

Individual Counseling
At the elementary level any student, parent or teacher can request a student to have individual counseling with the school counselor. The counseling is confidential. When the meeting is over the students are given a slip of paper explaining some part of what we talked about that day. With help from the counselor students will decide what they would like to share on their note. If a conversation warrants a parent’s involvement the counselor will ask the student if they are comfortable sharing the counselor’s email so parents can have more information. If parents are wanting more information about what is discussed in individual counseling they can call or email the counselor at any time. In some situations it may be suggested that the conversations are kept confidential to protect the student and maintain a positive relationship. However, at any point parents have the right to know the content of an individual counseling session. Individual counseling is designed to fit the needs of any one individual student. Topics from any domain can be covered; academic, career or social/emotional.

Student Council
The student body voted in the president and vice president. The class representatives were voted in by their fellow homeroom classmates. Student Council members get to brainstorm and create Fun Friday activities for the whole school as well as bring attention to the wishes of their peers.
